Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, spokesperson for the Environment and Natural Resources Sector Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has challenged media practitioners in the Upper East Region to hold politicians accountable by demanding transformational development projects rather than celebrating what he described as “ordinary” initiatives.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Dr. Krugu said the media must play a stronger watchdog role by pushing political leaders to undertake impactful interventions capable of transforming the lives of young people and accelerating the development of the region.
“Challenge us as politicians and stop highlighting some of the shallow projects or projects that ordinary people can equally initiate, such as grinding mills and the rest,” he stated.
According to him, the persistent classification of regions in Northern Ghana among the poorest by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) should serve as a wake-up call for both political leaders and citizens to rethink the region’s development priorities.
Dr. Krugu stressed that politicians must embrace a development-driven mindset and focus on long-term projects that create employment opportunities, improve infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth.
He further argued that the overwhelming political support given to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region should translate into visible and transformational development outcomes.
“The people of the Upper East Region gave the NDC 15 parliamentary seats, and they should be able to deliver 15 transformational projects that will change the growth of the region,” he added.
Dr Krugu maintained that the future of the Upper East Region depends largely on visionary leadership, strategic investments, and a collective commitment to sustainable development rather than short-term political projects.
