The Spiritan Dream Centre has presented a GHS 15,500 seed fund to the Sherigu Women’s Cooperative as part of a year-long initiative aimed at equipping local women with agricultural skills, financial literacy and opportunities for economic empowerment.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Sherigu Chief, Fr. Atuguba Maxwell, Executive Director of the Spiritan Dream Centre, and members of the cooperative.
Over the past year, the project has focused on providing training in agriculture and financial management, helping women build skills and confidence to become economically independent.
The Sherigu Women’s Cooperative, which brings together six smaller groups of weavers, livestock farmers and other entrepreneurs, has also opened a collective bank account to ensure members are financially included in the formal banking system.
The GHS 15,500 seed fund will serve as a revolving support system, allowing members to access loans through Naara Community Bank. This is expected to enable them to expand their businesses and increase income, contributing to sustainable community development.
“This initiative is not just about giving financial support; it is about building a structure for long-term empowerment,” said Fr. Maxwell, emphasizing the importance of community ownership and trust in sustaining the project.
The Spiritan Dream Centre said the partnership demonstrates how targeted interventions can create meaningful change in rural communities. It noted that by combining training, financial support and structured systems, the initiative is helping to uplift not only individual women but entire households.
The seed fund is expected to mark the beginning of a broader effort to sustain support for the cooperative, expand economic opportunities for women and strengthen livelihoods in Sherigu.
