80 arrested in joint police operation across Bolgatanga, Bongo, Nabdam and Talensi

The Upper East Regional Police Command, with support from the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) Special Operations Team, has arrested a total of 80 suspects during a large-scale intelligence-led swoop conducted across Bolgatanga Municipality, Bongo, Nabdam, and Talensi Districts.

The operation, which took place from May 25 to June 3, 2026, targeted suspected criminal hideouts and areas linked to narcotics peddling, drug abuse, and other criminal activities within the region.

According to the Police Command, 12 suspects, comprising eight males and four females, were arrested at Zuarungu. Among the female suspects were three Nigerian nationals and one Ghanaian.

In Bongo, police arrested 34 suspects, made up of 32 males and two females. The operation was later extended to Perlungu, Kongo, and Nangodi in the Nabdam District, where an additional 14 suspects, comprising 12 males and two females, were apprehended.

A further 20 suspects were arrested in Bolgatanga as part of the coordinated security operation.

Preliminary investigations indicate that many of the suspects were allegedly involved in narcotics peddling, drug consumption, and other criminal activities.

During the operation, police retrieved several items believed to be linked to criminal activities. In Talensi, officers recovered a motorcycle, assorted foreign cigarettes, male condoms, and quantities of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

In Bongo, security personnel retrieved three rounds of 5.56×45mm NATO ammunition and two motorbikes.

The operation in Nabdam led to the recovery of parcels and sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, assorted drinks suspected to contain narcotic content, an unregistered motorbike, assorted foreign cigarettes, and parts of a casino jackpot machine.

Meanwhile, suspects arrested in Bolgatanga were found in possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, assorted cigarettes, a Yamaha Sirius motorbike with registration number M-19-UE 2688, a Luojia motorbike with registration number M-13-UE 7181, an unregistered Haojue motorbike, and a casino jackpot machine.

The Upper East Regional Police Command stated that all suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be put before the courts to face the full rigours of the law.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to combat crime, drug trafficking, and other unlawful activities in the Upper East Region, with the aim of ensuring peace, security, and public safety.
