Disturbances at Bongo Senior Secondary School: SHS1 and SHS2 students to return on June 20, final-year students to write exams from home

Following recent disturbances at Bongo Senior Secondary School (BONSEC), the Ghana Education Service (GES) Director for Bongo, Michael Ayamdor, has announced that first- and second-year students (SHS1 and SHS2) are to report back to school on June 20.

The decision follows a “misunderstanding involving separate theft cases on the school premises that led to heightened tensions among some students, prompting management to take precautionary measures.”

According to information gathered from the school’s management, all students were asked to leave the campus immediately as efforts are underway to “restore calm and order to enable the resumption of normal academic activities.” Mr. Ayamdor explained that the “safety and well-being of students remain a top priority, and the temporary evacuation was necessary to prevent further escalation.”

In the meantime, “all final-year students (SHS) will continue their exams from home, as part of the measures to maintain academic progress despite the disruptions.” Mr. Ayamdor appealed to parents to support their wards by providing the necessary resources and encouragement to return to school and resume their studies.

The Ghana Education Service says it remains committed to ensuring a peaceful and conducive learning environment at BONSEC and is working closely with school authorities to resolve the issues swiftly. Parents and guardians have been urged to cooperate fully to facilitate a smooth return to normalcy.

Mr. Ayamdor made the remarks on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga programme on June 10, 2026.
