The Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) has made a significant step towards securing land for its future expansion, paying 70 per cent of the cost of the Sumbrungu-Aguusi land allocated to the institution more than a decade ago.
The University announced that a cheque amounting to GH¢751,625.00 has been presented to the landowners through the Chief of Sumbrungu as part payment for the acquisition of the land earmarked for the institution’s growth and long-term development.
A total of 443.2 plots of land were allocated to the then Bolgatanga Polytechnic in 2015 to facilitate its physical expansion and accommodate future academic and infrastructural development.
However, payment for the land remained outstanding over the years.
According to the University, the newly inaugurated Governing Council, guided by a development-focused agenda, prioritised mobilising resources to address the long-standing issue and secure the land for the institution’s use.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter Osei Boamah, presented the cheque on behalf of the university. The Registrar Richard Abugri Atia, the Director of Finance Stephen Gbanbil Tobazaa, and the Head of Protocol Vida Caroline Kurugu witnessed the presentation.
Management indicated that securing the land is crucial to the University’s plans to expand its infrastructure and academic facilities to meet the demands of its increasing student population and growing range of programmes.
The University leadership also expressed appreciation to the Sumbrungu community and the landowners for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the process.
BTU reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its relationship with the community and fostering continued collaboration that will promote mutual growth and development.
