The Sirigu Integrated Senior High School has launched activities to mark its 25th anniversary, with school authorities using the occasion to appeal for urgent support to address critical infrastructure gaps, especially the lack of toilet facilities.
The Silver Jubilee celebration is scheduled for November 28, 2026, under the theme: “25 Years of Inclusive Education: Building a Resilient Community through Stakeholder Partnership.”
Headmaster John Ayimbila Nyaaba said the school’s most pressing challenge is the absence of toilet facilities for its student population of over 1,000, as well as teaching and non-teaching staff.
“As of now, we don’t have any toilet in the school. Students have to go outside and do ‘free range.’ Apart from the inconvenience, it is bringing a lot of indiscipline,” Mr. Nyaaba said.
He added that the situation is worse for visually impaired students. “One day one of them got lost in the bush. We had to call and go and bring him. So you can see, without toilet facilities, when a student says ‘I’m going to free myself,’ it creates both safety and discipline problems.”
Speaking on behalf of the Ghana Education Service, Regional Public Relations Officer Nathaniel Nyaaba commended all stakeholders for their contributions in bringing the school this far. He urged continued support and assured that GES is putting measures in place to ensure quality education for all.
Kassena-Nankana West DCE Stephen Aeke Akurugo praised the community effort that has grown the school from its inception to over 1,000 students offering more than five academic programmes. “The story of Sirigu Integrated SHS is that of resilience, determination, and collective responsibility.
The theme for this celebration is both timely and relevant. Education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives,” the DCE said.
Mr. Akurugo noted that sustainable development requires partnership among government, traditional authorities, parents, alumni, civil society, and the private sector. “I’m aware of the developmental challenges faced by the school. As an assembly, we will do our possible best.
This year, the NDA project has been handed over to the assembly. Under the DACF Legacy Project, we will come and complete that toilet facility by the end of the year,” he assured.
Founded 25 years ago, Sirigu Integrated SHS has positioned itself as a centre for inclusive education, admitting students with and without disabilities.
School authorities and stakeholders say the Jubilee will be used to mobilise resources to improve infrastructure, enhance teaching and learning facilities, and strengthen ICT education.
