The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested 14 people after an intelligence-led operation allegedly uncovered suspected cannabis being cultivated among millet and maize at Daliga in the Nabdam District.
The suspects were arrested Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026, during an operation conducted by the Police Intelligence Directorate in collaboration with the newly formed Black Cobra Team.
Police identified the suspects as Alex Nyaaba, Charles Keleg Dombil, Zimi Pandam, Jennifer Ziini, Tobirr Naab, Yinteng James, Tosil Wandabil, Sandanane Peehim, Borimi Nohoo, Curim Teng, Curim Kugri, Nohou Dagobila, Abane Zangbeog and one other person who was not named.
During a search, police said they discovered a large quantity of suspected narcotic drugs concealed in sacks of millet and maize.
Preliminary investigations indicate that suspected cannabis, commonly referred to as Indian hemp, was being cultivated alongside millet and maize, allegedly to conceal the plants and avoid detection by law enforcement authorities.
Police also suspect that those arrested are major suppliers of narcotic drugs to peddlers operating in various parts of the Upper East Region.
The 14 suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue. They are expected to be arraigned before court.
