Friends of Prosper has committed GH¢20,000 and an additional 100 school bags to Women in Broadcast, Upper East Region, to support vulnerable children as they begin the new academic year.
The GH¢20,000 will be used to purchase school shoes, while the 100 school bags will be distributed to children selected under Women in Broadcast’s Back-to-School Campaign.
The support follows an appeal by the group after its previous educational outreach revealed that some children in deprived communities were attending school without proper footwear and school bags.
President of Women in Broadcast, Upper East Region, Humul Khrusum Tahiru, said the group identified the additional needs while distributing more than 3,000 exercise books and pens across five districts last year.
“Last year during our donation exercise, we identified a number of children that came to school without shoes or even good shoes and school bags,” Ms. Tahiru said.
She said Friends of Prosper subsequently responded to the group’s appeal with GH¢20,000 for school shoes and an additional 100 school bags.
“And so we called on individuals to again come to our aid, and we are happy to say that Friends of Prosper willingly agreed to support us with 20,000 Ghana cedis to buy shoes and to also support us with an extra hundred school bags,” she said.
The Friends of Prosper contribution forms part of GH¢38,000 secured by Women in Broadcast for this year’s educational support initiative. Happy Man Foundation has provided the other GH¢18,000 for exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers and sharpeners.
Ms. Tahiru expressed appreciation to the organisations supporting the campaign and said the resources would be used for their intended purposes.
“We want to say a very big thank you to them because we reached out to a number of people and they responded positively. The partnership we have with them is one we intend to keep,” she said.
Women in Broadcast is expected to announce the beneficiary schools and communities as it prepares to distribute the educational materials.
