Zylofon Cash threatens to terminate Ghana Premier League sponsorship deal

0

The top-flight’s headline sponsors say they may pull out of the contract if Ghana FA officials are found guilty in an ongoing investigation
Zylofon Cash Public relations officer Halifax Owusu-Ansah has warned Ghana Football Association to clear themselves or risk their lucrative ten-year deal for the Ghana Premier League being scrapped.

This comes following recent allegations of corruption levelled against the FA’s president Kwesi Nyantakyi and some executive committee members who are currently under investigation by the Criminal and Investigation Department (CID).

Nyantakyi was caught on camera in an undercover investigation by ace Ghanaian journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI crew.

Nyantakyi has been charged with defrauding by false pretence for using the name of the country’s president Nana Akufo-Addo to negotiate for a business deal in Dubai.

Greater Accra regional football association chairman Eddie Doku and Kofi Manu were also captured accepting bribes to influence selection into the national teams and issues regarding player’s eligibility.

“If it so happens that the investigations affect the whole organisation [GFA] or the leaders so much so that the league cannot continue, then we may review the contract and opt out,” Halifax told Citi FM.

“Who enters a contract without an exit clause? I’ve not seen it anywhere before so there are other options. However, the matter hasn’t reached there yet, it is just an option we are considering so we are hoping that the situation will not get to that level in the end. They have to clear themselves,” he added.

Stop diverting attention with sacking of CEOs – NDC slams Akufo-Addo

0

The main opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a statement swiping the president over the dismissal of some state CEOs, a move the party claims is being used to cover the embarrassment following the expose by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The statement which was signed by Deputy General Secretary, Koku Anyidoho, called on party supporters to ignore the diversionary tactics being employed by government through the dismissal of the state CEOs.

The Managing Director for BOST, Alfred Obeng has been asked to hand over to one Mr. George Mensah Okley. The boss for the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mr. Paul Asare Ansah has also been sacked.

But reacting to the dismissals, the NDC said: ‘’The National Democratic Congress (NDC), is calling on all Party members, to completely ignore, the desperate diversionary attempt of the failing and fast-sinking Akufo-Addo Government, to use the rather belated supposed sacking of some Chief Executive Officers of certain Government owned Entities to pull a veil over the impending screening of the corrosive corruption-laden video of Anas Aremyaw Anas.’’

It added: ‘’All comrades and patriots must stay glued to the nitty gritties of the video of Anas Aremyaw Anas, and hold this Super Incompetent NPP Administration accountable for the blatant ignominy and shame it has brought upon Kwame Nkrumah’ s Ghana as they continue to swim in murky seas of ONE DAY, ONE CORRUPTION.’’

I am astonished at Nyantakyi’s fabricated lies – Akufo-Addo

0

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he is astonished following the claims Kwesi Nyantakyi, made in the expose by Anas Aremeyaw Anas in his latest ‘Number 12’ video which was premiered at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Wednesday, June 6, 2018.

The president of the Republic spoke to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in reaction to the issues raised by Kwesi Nyantakyi. Kwesi Nyantakyi made claims that the president was in need of money because he sold his family property to finance his campaign.

”I know for a fact that Nana Addo sold his properties to win the elections so his family is very broke. His brothers are always asking for money, therefore, the $5 million will ease the burden.”

He also made claims of the inflated cost of road contracts stressing that ‘overpasses’ of the same standard conducted in New York and Ghana cost $70 million and $150 million respectively.

“The guy who is there [at the Transport Ministry], Asiamah; that is his [Kennedy Agyapong’s] small boy,” Kwesi Nyantakyi said. “So, he [Karbo] mentioned that they wanted to make him [Kennedy Agyapong] a minister because of the contribution he made to the campaign. [Kennedy Agyapong] says he cannot be a minister because he is not a disciplined person to be a minister.

But they [the government] gave him a ministry. They created a ministry and gave it to him and he nominated somebody as the minister. Yes, Ministry of Transport.”

In a meeting with Anas’ Tiger Eye PI collaborators who posed as a businessman, Nyantakyi is captured soliciting sums of money on behalf the President ($5million), Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia ($3million), the Transport Minister, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah ($2 million) and his deputy Anthony Karbo ($1million). But reacting to the claims said he “knows nothing” and is “astonished” by Nyantakyi’s claims. “He is completely false, it is completely false”.

Prayers against gay rights to start June 30 – Pentecostal Council

0

The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) is set to embark on a national prayer crusade opposing the same-sex marriage in Ghana.

The three days prayer event is to raise the consciousness of public opinion about grave social choices of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights in Ghana.

General Secretary of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, Rev. Emmanuel T. Barrigah disclosed this in an interview with Adom News, Tuesday.

Rev. Emmanuel T. Barrigah said the prayers will be held nationwide between June 30 and July 2, 2018.

He said homosexuality is demonic thus it is about time Christians pray ceaselessly for God to intervene.

Mr Barrigah believes the pressure from Western countries to get Ghana and other African countries to embrace same-sex marriages are part of a bigger scheme to dominate the continent.

The GPCC General Secretary said even the European Court on Human Right recently ruled unanimously against LGBT right so they will not allow any person to mislead the country.

He told Adom News reporter, Kofi Nkansah that, though they will show love to gays and lesbians, they won’t support its legalization.

Same-sex relations are illegal in 36 Commonwealth member states, including nine that have a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

In Ghana, a law against ‘unnatural carnal knowledge’ is interpreted as criminalising same-sex sexual encounters, especially between two males.

Minority shocked by Akufo – Addo’s Kumasi Airport sod cutting ceremony

0

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has said they are stunned by President Akufo Addo Sod cutting of second phase of the Kumasi International Airport today.

In a statement signed by Kwame Governs Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu and Ranking Member on Road and Transport Committee of Parliament, the Minority in Parliament said the President’s action is a complete waste of time.

“The purported sod cutting by the President would amount to a needless waste of time and scarce national resources in view of the fact that his predecessor, President John Dramani Mahama, performed the same ceremony on 5th December 2016”.

In the statement, the Minority said the former President Mahama cut the sod for the project securing parliamentary approval of a loan of 65,037,500 Euros from Banco Santander S.A. and export credit support from the United Kingdom Export Finance Agency.

“President Mahama performed the ceremony after securing parliamentary approval of a loan of 65,037,500 Euros from Banco Santander S.A. and export credit support from the United Kingdom Export Finance Agency, for onward lending of 7,762,500 Euros, to the Ghana Airports Company Limited, in November 2016.”

The Minority stated that same contractor with whom an agreement was entered in 2016 to execute the project has been retained for the project.

The Minority has attributed this action to the government’s inability to account for the monies borrowed since January 2017.

“This sort of conduct smacks of desperation and are symptomatic of a government that has nothing to show for the billions of Ghana Cedis it has borrowed since January 2017.”

The Caucus also accused the NPP government of their consistent act of taking undue credit for works of others.

They also stated that similar work was done under NDC government under President Mahama in respect of the Tamale Airport and expect the Akufo Addo government will go through with the motion to ensure the commencement of phase of the project.

President Akufo-Addo cut the sod for the commencement of phase two of the Kumasi Airport Project on Wednesday.

The 66,035,000 euros project is expected to be completed in 24months.

The project according to the President will give Kumasi the “much-needed impetus to reinforce its position as an important commercial and transformational centre in Ghana and West Africa.”

Number 12: Kufuor wants corrupt officials sanctioned

0

Former President John Kufuor wants persons indicted in Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ yet-to-be-released investigative film to be brought to book.

After watching excerpts of the film, dubbed ‘Number 12’, John Kufuor described as “evil” the acts of corruption of some referees and officials of the Ghana Football Association who among other practices were caught on tape fixing football matches.

Commenting on the video, Kufuor said, “I want the nation to be shocked by this practice, it is evil. I believe Ghana is a country of laws so investigation should be put to work and of course, the outcome should be applied strictly, according to law.”
There is great anticipation for the investigative piece which has dominated the country’s media space in the last couple of weeks.

Among the reasons for the buzz about the premiering of the video is the earlier revelation that the President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwasi Nyantakyi used the name of President Akufo-Addo to solicit bribes from supposed foreign investors.

President Akufo-Addo reported Mr Nyantakyi to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service earlier in May after watching excerpts of the film.

Mr Nyantakyi was interrogated by the CID and had his phones and laptop seized as part of investigations.

The deputy minister for Roads and Transport, Anthony Karbo was also invited to the CID later to assist in investigations after it emerged this his name was mentioned in the video in a possible corruption deal.

It is also reported that some unidentified persons have been tracking Anas’ office “and other locations ostensibly to harm him.”

The Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has also been on a media campaign against the methods of Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The banter between Mr Agyapong and veteran journalist, Kweku Baako, who is a mentor to Anas has further heightened expectation of the video.

Hundreds of Ghanaians thronged the premises of Citi FM earlier this week to pick free tickets to the premiere.

Number 12 will be premiered at the Accra International Conference Center today [Wednesday] and Thursday at 3 pm, 5 pm, 8 pm and 10 pm.

I doubt the originality of leaked Nyantakyi statement- David Agbee

0

The Executive Director of the Ghana Institute of Governance and Security, David Agbee, says he doubts the originality of the leaked CID document that is said to be the statement the embattled president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, gave to the police.

The confidential document was leaked to Multimedia’s Joy FM earlier this week.

Its emergence into public domain has raised several concerns including the credibility and level of professionalism of the Ghana Police Service, with many calling for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and some key figures within the police administration.

The biggest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), has also waded into the issue following reports of allegations that former president John Dramani Mahama and the party received a donation of $8 million to aid their campaign in 2016.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio Wednesday, the governance and security guru has raised doubts about the authenticity of the document. According to Mr Agbee, he will be terribly shocked if indeed the statement of the GFA president which is supposed to be under lock and key, is what is in public.

“I do not think that such a statement will actually come from the police as i do know most of the guys there are professionals. And so if it really comes from the CID office, I will be terribly shocked”. He said

Mr. Agbee added it will be unprofessional if it comes out that the document in the public domain is true copy of what the CID holds.

Citing the case involving former appointees of the previous government who were said to have received double salaries, the security guru decried the spate of similar cases where confidential documents have been leaked from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

“It looks as if every statement that somebody gives to the CID people, they will publish it.

Do you remember the double salary matter? The double salary matter of the former ministers and former MPs and all that. You know, it was all over the media. I never knew of BNI or CID doing things like this”. He wondered.
