The Executive Director of the Ghana Institute of Governance and Security, David Agbee, says he doubts the originality of the leaked CID document that is said to be the statement the embattled president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, gave to the police.

The confidential document was leaked to Multimedia’s Joy FM earlier this week.

Its emergence into public domain has raised several concerns including the credibility and level of professionalism of the Ghana Police Service, with many calling for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and some key figures within the police administration.

The biggest opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC), has also waded into the issue following reports of allegations that former president John Dramani Mahama and the party received a donation of $8 million to aid their campaign in 2016.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio Wednesday, the governance and security guru has raised doubts about the authenticity of the document. According to Mr Agbee, he will be terribly shocked if indeed the statement of the GFA president which is supposed to be under lock and key, is what is in public.

“I do not think that such a statement will actually come from the police as i do know most of the guys there are professionals. And so if it really comes from the CID office, I will be terribly shocked”. He said

Mr. Agbee added it will be unprofessional if it comes out that the document in the public domain is true copy of what the CID holds.

Citing the case involving former appointees of the previous government who were said to have received double salaries, the security guru decried the spate of similar cases where confidential documents have been leaked from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

“It looks as if every statement that somebody gives to the CID people, they will publish it.

Do you remember the double salary matter? The double salary matter of the former ministers and former MPs and all that. You know, it was all over the media. I never knew of BNI or CID doing things like this”. He wondered.
