It is disappointing in the mode in which Alan resigns-NPP laments

0

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has lamented that the mode in which the former Minister of Trade and Industries, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, resigned from the party is disappointing.

According to the party, it only learned about his resignation through the press conference he held on Monday, September 25, without prior notice to the party.

“The Party wants to believe that his decision to hold a press conference to resign without first informing the leadership of the Party suggests that he has made a premeditated and irrevocable decision to resign from the Party”, it stated

The General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, revealed this at a press conference on Tuesday, September 26, at the party`s headquarters.

“It needs emphasizing that, when the National Chairman visited him on behalf of the Party after the August 26 Special Electoral College, in an attempt to bring all the ten aspirants together, he did not portray any sign of resigning from the party, let alone going independent”, he added.

He said the party acknowledges Mr. Kyerematen’s contributions to the party’s growth and development over the years, respects his decision, and extends its gratitude for the services rendered to the NPP and the nation.

The secretary emphasized that the NPP has always been a dynamic and resilient political party, and this moment serves as an opportunity for members to demonstrate their unity, fortitude, and unwavering commitment to the principles upon which the party was founded.

“As the party strives to win the 2024 general election and make a monumental record, we urge party faithfuls to reaffirm their dedication towards this common goal. Our party’s strength has always been derived from the unity and resilience of our members, and we call upon each and every one of you to rally together and uphold the principles that define us”, he stressed.

C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences to introduce Chinese

0

The faculty officer of the Center for Modern Languages at the C.K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Abdul-Aziz Kamara, has hinted that the university is set to introduce Chinese as a course to enable students to take advantage of available opportunities.

According to him, this has become necessary following the cosmopolitan nature of the world, with China dominating in the world of trade, and the need for students to be trained to take advantage of opportunities at the continental level.

He said the idea to introduce the language formed part of the university`s strategy to equip students with a diverse set of skills that would prepare them for success in various countries with diverse languages.Mr. Kamara indicated that “the Center for Modern Languages is a service center that serves the university by teaching students French and communication skills, and now, thankfully, the council has decided that we should add Chinese, so very soon we will be adding that.”

He explained that “the world is evolving and things are moving fast, and if you consider where China has reached, it is good to know something about them, their culture, and what they say because we always go to China to buy or study, and we have many of our lecturers who have gone there through scholarships to study.”

The faculty officer added that the school has been offering French as a course since 2004, and all these are to equip students in diverse ways to meet the current demand of the job market.

The Director of Academic Programmes and Quality Assurance of the school, Prof. Samson Abagale, emphasised that the university attaches quality to its programmes to ensure that they meet world-standard requirements.

He added that their programmes are also tailored to deliver competitive products that will compete on the job market with the skills they have acquired.

Alan is coming to win, not to disrupt elections-Member of Movement for Change

0

A frontline communication member of the Movement for Change, Michael Safo Kantanka, has indicated that the goal of the leader of the movement, Alan Kyerematen, is to win the 2024 election and not just add numbers to disrupt the elections.

According to him, Mr. Kyerematen is the man to lead Ghana out of the difficulties the country has found itself, and there is the need for the youth in the country to rally behind the movement.

“Alan resigned because of his resolve to change the country, and that is the ultimate goal, and he has put himself forward as the man who is more credible, competent, and trustworthy to be able to handle the affairs of this country far better than his compatriots”.

He said Alan is the man to drive the industrial revolution that would provide jobs to the most unemployed youth in the country.

Mr Kantanka, maintained that none of all those individuals who have gone as independent candidates in past elections comes close to Alan Kyerematen, and the argument of people always failing as independent candidates must be put in proper context.

Mr. Alan Kyerematen, while addressing a press conference in Accra on Monday, September 25, said his decision to run as an independent candidate would help change the norm by breaking the duopoly between the two main political parties in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Pointing to his decision to resign from the NPP, he said “It is abundantly clear to me that my services and contributions to the Party are not appreciated and that my continuous stay in the Party will create further tension and division, which is an exact replay of circumstances that led to my decision to resign from the Party in 2008”.

NPP will blame Alan for their loss in 2024 rather than their misconduct- Political Analyst

0

A political analyst, Dr. Jonathan Ashante Otchere, has asserted that the governing New Patriotic Party is likely to attribute their loss in the upcoming 2024 general election to the resignation of Alan Kyerematen.

According to him, all the surveys that have been conducted have indicated that the NPP is likely to lose power in 2024, which has been occasioned by the mismanagement of the economy, plaguing the nation with high levels of debt and a rising cost of living.

‘If the NPP loses the 2024 election, they will attribute it to Alan`s resignation; they will forget all the other factors, all the decisions, all the misconduct that have occasioned their loss and attribute it to Alan”. Dr. Ashante noted

“I would have wished that he didn’t contest after resigning or even support any of the candidates, but come to think of it, why has the party jumped Alan to Bawumia because NPP is a consecutive party and you need to pay your dues, and Alan has paid his dues as a founding member of the party, and in terms of contest, he has always put up a good show of himself”, he added.

The political analyst revealed this when he spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio`s Daybreak Upper East show following the resignation of Alan Kyerematen from the NPP to contest as an independent candidate in the upcoming 2024 election.

He said there is no justification for the party to have jumped Alan Kyerematen to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, following how the party has elected its leaders over the years.

“When Kuffour intended to contest Adu Boahen, he was told his time was not due, and when it was his time and Akufo Addo wanted to also serve his party, he was told his time was not due. Now that it was Akufo Addo`s time and the party attempted to bring Alan ahead of him, he played that scenario to his advantage, and that got him sympathy, so what has changed”, he quizzed.

Mr. Alan Kyerematen has indicated that he will lead a new movement for change in Ghana as an independent presidential candidate that “will break divisive partisanship in governance in Ghana and bring an end to the “winner takes all” political syndrome.”

Students of Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School have made a passionate appeal to the public ahead of the school’s 50th-anniversary celebration in November 2023.

During an interview with Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Region, members of the Youth Harvest Clubs expressed that in order for the school to effectively plan and celebrate this monumental achievement, they require public support.

The support requested by the students includes financial contributions, donations of food and food items, as well as paint and other building materials.

“I want to use this opportunity to tell the public that our school will be having its 50th anniversary and we are asking stakeholders and everyone else to come and help us make this event a memorable one. Old students, come and help your students and the school. We need financial support. If you also can paint our school for us, we would be grateful. Nothing is too small,” Barikisu Mohammed, a second year General Art student and member of the Harvest Youth Club said.

Fiona Awiah, another student and member of the Harvest Youth Club, explained that the food situation in the school is not one that is healthy for the students and as such, immediate help is needed.

“Food is also an important issue. At the dining issue, you see students struggling over food,” she said.

The lead advocate for the dialysis unit at the Upper East Regional Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Akatibo, is hopeful that the centre will be completed and put to use by the end of the year. He made this statement during an interview with Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

Dr. Akatibo explained that three additional machines had been donated by the Sankofa Organization following an earlier donation by the Asaase Foundation. Additionally, work on the building expected to house the centre is almost complete.

Currently, the team is in Accra to pick up the machines. The building to host the facility is almost ready too. We are hoping to open the centre before the end of the year,” he said.

BOGISS’ Harvest Youth Club calls on parents to establish cordial relationships with their wards

0

The Youth Harvest Foundation`s school club at Bolgatanga Girls Senior High School, dubbed, Harvest Youth Club, has called on parents to establish cordial relationships with their children to understand their mindset and guide them through their careers.

According to the youth club, most relationships that exist between parents and their children are not that friendly, which shy away children from sharing issues affecting them with their parents and rather resorting to their peers for advice.

This, the youth club noted, has the tendency of leading the children astray in the event that they are not given good counsel by their peers.

“The youth are the future leaders, but we can see that some of the youth are going astray, and we have taken it upon ourselves as a club to educate our colleagues on good deeds, but parents have a key role to play in shaping who their children become in the future, and they can do this by first establishing a good relationship with their children to enable them to share their problems with them,” a member of the club, Agongo Issaka Sumaiyatu Winnebo said.

The Harvest youth club also called on their fellow students to try to learn on their own to complement whatever they are being taught in class to enable them to pass their exams.

“It takes hard work, determination, and learning ahead to pass exams because nowadays the syllabuses are too broad, so if you are waiting on only the teacher to come to the class and teach, then you would have problems passing your exams, so as students we need to work hard”, Mohammed Barikisu indicated.

The youth club revealed this when some of its members spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio`s Daybreak Upper East show.

The Youth Harvest Club is a youth-focused project by the Youth Harvest Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, currently targeting five senior high schools in the Upper East Region.

It aimed at fostering youth engagement by creating platforms to empower the youth in areas that the school curriculum does not cater for, such as health, social development, and entrepreneurship, among others.

Upper East Region receives 164 motorbikes for SOCO M&E

1

The Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project has disbursed 164 motorbikes to all municipal and district assemblies in the Upper East region for monitoring purposes and to enhance service delivery at the local level.

The $150 million SOCO project is implemented by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development in collaboration with the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC).

It is expected that the 5-year project which is funded by the World Bank will improve economic activities in six regions that are affected by conflict and violence, food insecurity, and climate change.

Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu said the SOCO project goes to add to the many social intervention initiatives and projects the government is doing to provide jobs for Ghanaians. The minister who spoke to the media in Bolgatanga during a brief handing over exercise said the motorbikes will be used by facilitators of the project in clusters of the assemblies to ensure that some physical projects under SOCO are implemented appropriately to ensure the needs of the communities are being addressed.

“Each cluster has two facilitators and they will go round the district and make sure that the right thing is done with the projects that are going to be implemented in the cluster”

Out of the 164 motorbikes for the region, the Nabdam district received 8, Bongo 14, Kassena-Nankana West 14, and Bawku Municipal 16. The rest of the assemblies, Bolgatanga, Bolgatanga East, Talensi, Bawku West, Binduri, Pusiga, Garu, Tempane, Builsa South, and Kassena-Nankana Municipal would receive 10 motorbikes each. The remaining 2 motorbikes are allocated to the Regional Coordinating Council.

Mr. Yakubu mentioned that 132 community facilitators were recruited, trained, and supplied with motorbikes and laptops to ensure that they carried out the work without hindrance during the 5 years of the project.

Samuel Larbi Agarko, the SOCO Zonal Coordinator for the Upper East and North East regions said the disbursement of the motorbikes is a part of the project’s wider efforts to improve social cohesion and governance in the regions. With reliable transportation, Mr. Agarko stated that it will enable the facilitators to reach remote communities to effectively monitor the progress of work on the projects to ensure value for money.

On behalf of the Municipal and District Chief Executives in the region, Kassena-Nankana West DCE, Gerard Ataogye described the SOCO project as a game changer and promised to ensure that the motorbikes are used for the purpose.

The Gulf of Guinea Northern Regions Social Cohesion (SOCO) project is being implemented in 48 MMDAs across six regions, namely – Upper East, Upper West, Northern, North East, Savannah, and Oti.

UE/R: Minors are jeopardizing their future by attempting to register voter ID cards—EC Director

0

The Upper East Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), William Obeng Adarkwah, has advised persons who are under the age of 18 to desist from making attempts to register for the voter Identification  (ID) cards at the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

According to him, apart from the fact that such conduct is against the laws of the country and people caught would be liable for punishment, they would be putting themselves at risk for their future endeavors.

He noted that age forms a major component for job entries in the country, and minors registering the card now would eventually affect their ability to secure some jobs in the country.

The Director revealed this when he spoke to Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show regarding a viral video about individuals perceived to be minors who were bused to the EC office at the Builsa South District to register.

He said political parties, as stakeholders, play a major role in the ongoing exercise and called on them and parents to desist from instigating minors to enroll themselves onto the voter register.

Mr. Adarkwah emphasized that such attempts have the tendency to undermine the voter register, which would burden the taxpayer in the event of a new register due to blotting.
