An Labour Court has placed an interim injunction against Youth Employment Agency (YEA) from proceeding with mass transfer of almost 500 staff of the agency.
The court, presided over by Justice Laurenda Owusu, however, stated that the order remains in “force for a period of only 10 days after which the application may be repeated on notice to the other side.”
Over 500 workers of the YEA were in line to be affected in the transfer which according to the agency was intended to reposition it for higher productivity. Others were also to be demoted and reassigned.
The decision came after the deletion of some 16,000 people from the Agency’s payroll.
Joseph Nelson, a private citizen filed a suit to challenge the decision of the Agency to embark on the mass transfers describing the decision as unlawful.
Counsel for the plaintiff, Samson Lardy Anyenini Esq. in the suit prayed the court for the order to restrain the defendants; the Youth Employment Agency and the Attorney General from carrying out the decision against the staff.
