The Municipal Chief Executive for the Bolgatanga Municipality, Joseph Ameyuure has asked residents of the Upper East regional capital, to speak up about the ills in their various communities or keep quiet about them and wallow in poverty and under development.

Residents in the Upper East region have over the years been apathetic towards every issue in the region. For this reason, the region comparatively lags in terms of development.

Although faced with challenges, they shy away from airing their opinions and views anytime they are contacted by the media mostly due to the deep seated politics in the region and the fear of been victimized.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s ‘Reporters Visit’ on Tuesday, Mr. Ameyuure indicated that the region’s under development should be blamed on the fact that people in the Upper East region are apathetic towards everything.

He said instead of people to hold leadership and other people in positions of influence accountable, they politicize everything and hence their inability to criticize when things go wrong.

”Talk if you see that things are not going on well. Even if it is the Assembly where things are going bad just come and prompt us so that we can get things done in the right way.

“People in Bolgatanga will see a contractor doing a shoddy job but they won’t complain for fear of victimization. They will leave the contractor to do the poor work so we are always at class one, we don’t move forward. People should learn to speak up about bad things and the region will develop or we will continue to be poor and underdeveloped,” he said.

He indicated that people in other places including Tamale speak up against authority when things are not done right hence the reason why they enjoy development and the Upper East region continues to struggle for basic development.
