Suspended General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Agyapong has indicated that although he saw his suspension by the party as unconstitutional, he accepted it because of the respect he had for the party.

The NEC of NPP in September 2015 upheld the decision of the Disciplinary Committee to suspend indefinitely Kwabena Agyapong, together with the National Chairman, Paul Afoko; 2nd Vice Charman, Sammy Crabbe, for working against the party’s chances of winning the 2016 elections.

But speaking to Kumasi-based Abusua FM, Kwabena Agyapong who said he had missed politics indicated that his suspension was unconstitutional but he decided on not challenging the decision because of the respect he has for the political party in has toiled in building.

“When I was suspended, I knew it was unconstitutional but I did not challenge the decision because I have respect for the political party and will not want to sow any seed of disunity. I could have challenged the suspension but I did nothing like that not because I accept it but because I respect the party.”

He added that”I think being on suspension for two years is too long, our constitution doesn’t provide for that. We didn’t envisage that the General Secretary of the party to be absent from his job for two years…it’s not there but I hope good sense will prevail. I’m happy with myself and I thank God for the heart that I have, I’m very content”.
