The Bolgatanga East District Chief Executive, Jacob Abugre Aka-Eri, has warned residents against encroaching on roads earmarked for development, stating that any structures erected on designated road reserves will be removed to facilitate infrastructure projects.

The warning came as the Bolgatanga East District Assembly commenced a road-opening exercise in Zuarungu Zono as part of efforts to improve access and connectivity within the district.

The exercise forms part of a broader programme to open roads in several electoral areas, including Zuarungu Central, Duuligo, Yarigabisi, and Zuarungu Moshie.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Abugre explained that although the road alignments existed in official plans, many had not been physically demarcated on the ground.

“We only know where the road is passing on paper, so there was a need to open it physically to ensure everyone knows the exact location of the road. This will also ease access for community members,” he said.

The exercise initially faced resistance from some youths in Zuarungu Zono, who raised concerns about the project and temporarily prevented work from proceeding.

However, following discussions involving district officials, police personnel, assembly members, community representatives, and the youths, the concerns were addressed and the exercise continued peacefully.

Mr. Abugre said the incident underscored the importance of community engagement in the implementation of development projects.

He urged residents to cooperate with the assembly and avoid unauthorised construction on road reserves, warning that structures obstructing planned roads would be demolished.

The road-opening exercise is expected to improve transportation, enhance access between communities, and support economic and social activities across the district.
