Photo: Buipe and Yapei bridges opened to vehicular traffic

The Buipe and Yapei bridges has finally been open to traffic, that’s according to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

A statement from the Ministry said, “The Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ghana Highway Authority wishes to inform the general public that the Buipe and Yapei Bridges in the Northern Region will be open to vehicular traffic on Friday 22nd December 2017”.

The statement indicated that although the bridges are opened, “Only vehicles NOT exceeding the allowable load limit will be allowed to use the bridges,” adding that “Vehicles approaching the bridges will be weighed at the Jema Weigh Station near Kintampo and the Yapei Mobile weigh van before allowed on the bridges”.

The Buipe and Yapei bridges were closed down for works to be done on them some four weeks ago. The closure of the bridges to vehicular movement affected businesses in the Northern part of the country as travellers had to travel several hours and miles to have access to products.

BUIPE AND YAPEI BRIDGES REOPEN
The Ministry of Roads and Highways and the Ghana Highway Authority wishes to inform the general public that the Buipe and Yapei Bridges in the Northern Region will be open to vehicular traffic on Friday 22nd December 2017.
Only vehicles NOT exceeding the allowable load limit will be allowed to use the bridges.
Vehicles approaching the bridges will be weighed at the Jema Weigh Station near Kintampo and the Yapei Mobile weigh van before allowed on the bridges.
The Ministry through the Ghana Highway Authority wants to assure the general public that, traffic will be managed to ensure safety of the general public.
Motorists travelling to and from the Northern Sector of Ghana are therefore advised to adhere to directional and safety signs that will be placed at appropriate sections.
