The Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye, has recalled Parliament to sit on Friday, January 5, 2017.
The directive is pursuant to Article 112(3) and Order 38 of the Standing Orders of the House which allows 15 percent of Members to request the Speaker to summon a Sitting of the House to consider pertinent issues that have been brought to the attention of the Speaker.
The sitting is expected to consider a motion filed by the Minority National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament MPs) calling for investigations into the alleged levy collection by the Ministry of Trade & Industry of the Ghana Cedi equivalent of various sums up to US$100,000.00 from expatriate businesses and related matters during the recently held Ghana Expatriate Business Awards in Accra.
The Speaker’s directive was contained in a statement issued in Accra, Friday, December 29, 2017.
The Minority NDC MPs on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, tabled a motion for the Speaker to summon a Sitting of the House in respect over the US$100,000 expatriates saga.
The motion was moved by the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Asawase, Mohammed Muntaka-Mubarak and seconded by the MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
The duo wants Parliament to take urgent steps towards investigating the matter properly.
