A Member of the New Patriotic Party, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has called on the Ghanaian populace to embrace the payment of TV Licence because it will help the state Broadcaster to serve Ghanainsand their staff better.
The introduction of the TV licence has sparked several debates mostly on social media as sections of Ghanaians have openly said they will never pay the fee. An example of such individuals is Kwame A Plus who thinks it is a move by the government to rip the masses of their hard earned monies.
But in a post on Facebook, Gabby indicated that he backs the law to take TV licence from the people of Ghana.
He said “We should not be averse to paying TV license. I think it is an important good and can help GTV serve us and their staff much better.
He, however, indicated that he does not agree with the setting up of a court by the Chief Justice to prosecute defaulters of the TV license fee.
“What I disagree with though is having a special court to enforce payment or punish defaulters.”
Gabby further indicated that ” Let GTV concentrate more on building the infrastructure that can help them to collect. Ask yourselves, when was the last time you received a demand notice at home or in the office over nonpayment of TV license?”
