Paramount Chief of the Talensi traditional area in the upper east region, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nalebegtang has unreservedly expressed his disgust and disappointments at rifts and acrimonious situations among communities that have the tendencies to curtail developments in the region.

In what appears to be a big disappointment to the former politician now traditional ruler, he did not mince words when he said: “jealousy and self-centeredness will make us keep losing a lot of development.”

Speaking to journalists in Bolgatanga on a wide range of issues and particularly on the construction of an airport in the upper east region, Tongraan Kugbilsong Nalebegtang said the constant feud among communities over the siting of certain key projects in the region is unhealthy and most likely to result in an elusion of such projects.

“A regional hospital is being built on a municipal hospital and we are happy about it when we could have gotten better? Let’s be frank with ourselves that we are losing out on a lot of developments because of these kinds of misunderstandings” he said.

He further called on the two communities involved in a rift over the siting of the airport to immediately settle their differences to prevent the region from totally losing out on the project.

Sumbrungu and Sherigu, two communities in the Upper East region believed to have come from the same ancestral linage, have had issues over sites proposed for the construction of the first ever airport in the region. The construction of the airport development watchers and residents of the upper east region have said may suffer further delays or outright lost if the current ‘chill’ over which community to host it isn’t avoided.
