The Upper East Regional Minister, Rockson Bukari has issued a barrage of stern warnings that he will not condone 10% kick back in contracts awarded by the various Assemblies because it is a recipe for shoddy works.

The Minister who was speaking at a media engagement organised by the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council indicated that the practice which is widespread must be stopped because it is synonymous corruption indicating that he will not condone it going forward.

He said, “Contracts awarded are tinted with corruption and favouritism and do not serve the national interest, as awards may go to incompetent non-performances”.

“The expression ‘ten percent’ is synonymous with corruption. In line with President Nana Addo’s vision to fighting corruption, I have from the scratch publicly declared at Tender committees, Heads of department meetings and other public events ‘Operation no Ten Percent’ and all contract awards must go to credible contractors without political affiliation. This will ensure quality execution of projects or service to the people and to further ensure value for money,” he said indicating that the kickbacks are a breeding factor for shoddy works executed by some contractors.
