Information gathered by a1radioonline.com indicates that two persons out of five reported cases of meningitis have died in the Bongo District of the Upper East region.

Medical; Superintendent of the Bongo hospital, Dr. Gudu Williams who confirmed the deaths to a1radioonline.com said the first patient who reported to the facility died a few hours after reporting to the hospital on January 4.

He indicated that tests run on the patient proved that the patient died of meningitis.

He, however, stated that cerebrospinal fluids taken from the deceased prior to his death and that of four others who reported subsequently were sent to the Bolgatanga hospital for Lattes Agglutination test for Cerebrospinal Meningitis but that proved negative.

Allaying the fears of the people of Bongo that the deaths do not amount to an outbreak of the disease in the District, he cautioned families of the deceased to be careful in handling the dead bodies.
