Chief Executive Officer of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), Charles Abugri has asked the Special Prosecutor nominee, Martin Amidu to prosecute as many public officers from all public institutions in the country in order to bring change in the management of public resources.

According to him, there is the need for accountability among public officials and the appointment of Martin Amidu will ensure that appointees of government, civil servants and custodians of public resources to learn to be accountable in the acquisition of power and the discharge of their duties.

Mr. Abugri who was describing the kind of man Martin Amidu is and his selflessness as an individual said “Martin is who he is, he has no special interest in being a wealthy man.. by now he would have been a wealthy man. He lives with what he gets and when he left government at some point he didn’t even have a house. He is a bit like Kwame Nkrumah or Nyerere or Kenneth Kaunda. They served and made their mistakes but you cannot accuse them of doing so through self-interest”.

On SADA which was challenged with some failed projects in the past, he indicated that actions must be taken against officials who have looted monies saying “government money is not your money. It’s not possible to make policies and implement those policies without mistakes. Auditing is to help you improve your mistakes but when you loot public funds there has to be an arrest”.

The President last week appointed Martin Amidu as the country’s first Independent Special Prosecutor. His appointment has received positive reactions and much is expected of the man whose disgust for corruption has earned him the tag ‘citizen vigilante’.
