The NAFTHESS Foundation Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in collaboration with the BONABOTO National Tertiary Wing has donated educational items to Falya Madina Primary and Junior High Schools at theĀ  Yorogo, a community in the Bolgatanga municipality of the Upper East Region.

The items included exercise and textbooks, pens, pencils, sandals and used clothes.

Whilst the NAFTHESS Foundation Ghana was established by Miss Nafisah Alhassan, a student of the University of Development Studies (UDS) Wa Campus aimed at offering assistance and hope to the underprivileged schools and communities in the Upper East Region.

BONABOTO National Tertiary Wing is an association of students in the various tertiary institutions in the country who come from the Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bongo , Tongo among other areas Ā in the Upper East Region.

Speaking at the ceremony, Miss Alhassan urged the pupils to put the items into good use to derive maximum benefits to enhance their academic performance and improve the quality of education in the area.

She explained that the NAFTHESS Foundation Ghana, was borne out of the economic hardships experienced in the area which she said hindered the progress of the people especially the academic performance of the basic schools in the region.

ā€œI come from this region but I was not born and raised here. But coming back to my home to realise how some people needed help especially my young brothers and sisters in the basic schools, is something that motivated me to start this initiative. What is the essence of keeping what you no longer need when others need it to improve their lives or can help others with the little you have? So I formed this NGO to solicit support from friends who had things that they were no longer in use especially educational materials to complement my own efforts to assist these schools,ā€ she stressed.

She stated that last year her outfit in collaboration donated similar items to basic schools in Gambibgu in the Upper East Region and Tuali, Tokali and Wachaiau in the Upper West Region.

Mr Joachim Elbazar, the National President of the BONABOTO National Tertiary Education Wing added that his association has been working effectively with the NAFTHESS Foundation Ghana to fight against teenage pregnancy in the various communities especially the rural communities in the region.

Community engagements, advocacy as well as education and sensitisation through the radio and other relevant channels, he said have been deployed to reach out to the youth to help reduce the number of teenage pregnancies recorded in the region as well as offer them with adolescent reproductive health advises.

Mr Bawa Atule, the headmaster of the Falya Madina Junior High School (JHS) who received the donation on the behalf of the schools thanked the two partners for their support and pledged to assist the pupils to put the items into good use.

The headmaster mentioned the inadequate furniture as one of the major factors confronting the schools and noted that the school currently had an enrollment of 143 pupils which he indicated, Ā outstripped the number of the furniture.
