Broadcast Journalist, Azongo Albert has expressed worry over the practice of open defecation on the campus of the Bolgatanaga Senior High School.
The journalist who was on a visit to the campus of the school over the weekend observed that male students defecate openly although there exists a toilet facility.
Azongo Albert in a post on Facebook lamented why although toilet facilities are available, the students are forced to practice open defecation because authorities of the school have locked up the toilet facility.
He said “
BIG BOSS NEEDS ATTENTION!
Today, I drove through the campus of Bolgatanga Senior High School-BIG BOSS and what I saw was an eyesore. Students of the School gleefully engage in open defecation right on the compound of the School.
I counted close to ten male students openly defecating just about 50 meters from their dormitory. That sounds weird huh! It’s the truth.
I pulled over and engaged the students in a conversation. According to them, it is very normal and that has been the situation for a very long time. They told me its not a crime to openly ‘poopoo’ because there is no usable toilet facility for them.
A few meters away from where we stood which also is the grounds for their defecation stood what appears to be two newly built toilet facilities that have been closed. The students say those are toilets they were supposed to use but don’t know why the toilet facilities are under lock and key. Apparently, the female students also openly defecate at the other side of same campus.
This is a serious situation, in my opinion, considering the health hazards and indiscipline we are allowing these children to learn.
At a time we are intensifying our fight against filth and open defecation, a situation like this should never have occurred in the first place -a campus where humans are confined and can be controlled.
If the Upper East Regional Minister and the District Chief Executive for Talensi aren’t aware of what is happening at BIG BOSS, it must immediately be brought to their attention. Your fight against open defecation may have to start from here.
I don’t know what may be the reason for keeping toilet facilities for students closed but it surely should not be a matter beyond resolution. The Old Students of this great school must take interest in this matter ASAP.
