President must be told in the face that Ghana is not working – Dev’t Economist

Development Economist at the University for Development Studies, Michael Ayamga Adongo has said the President of Ghana needs to be told in the face that Ghana is not working like his people have been touting on various platforms.

According to him, although he thought the government’s most touted project like the One District, One Dam in the Northern part of the country was a good project drummed home by the government, the project remains a campaign because it has not been transformed to a policy yet and that is a major challenge considering the short period the government is expected to implement it.

He indicated that although the country has given the government time to adjust, some of the things that led to the defeat of John Mahama keeps repeating itself in the Akufo-Addo led government.

He said “People want to see things on the ground and that is not happening so the President should be told in the face that Ghana is not working as he thinks it is. We have all tried to be optimistic and have given the government space to adjust but things don’t seem to be happening. We can’t tell the President he is doing well, he is not”.

He indicated that signals from the exchange market are a clear indication that the government has performed abysmally in its first year in government.

“If you look at the exchange market everything shows that things are not going on well. Considering the taxes that were scrapped? I once said on this network that the taxes targetted by government were mistargeted. The government said it was scrapping taxes on fares for planes but now look at the prices of flights? They are double the prices that we were sold at. Look at spare parts, the prices are nothing to write home about so clearly, things are not right,” he told Samuel Mbura.
