Deputy Attorney General and Member of Parliament for Tempane in the Upper East region, Dindioke Kpemka has said the government has intentions to change the source of funding for the construction of the controversial Bolgatanga-Bawku.

According to him, the road fund which was expected to fund works done on the controversial road has no funds and that has stalled the process of constructing the road which is a major road network in the country.

He indicated that government is working to move the funding for the road from the road fund to the Government of Ghana so the Finance Ministry can allocate money for the construction of the Biolgatanga-Bawku road.

“The Ministry has said it has intentions to take the funding from the road fund to the Government of Ghana so that the Finance Ministry can allocate money for the road because the road fund cannot fund such a colossal sum.”

The Minister indicated that government has released some funds to pay some outstanding debts but indicated that the contractor is not pleased with the amount and promised that government is working around the clock to add more in order to get them back on site.

“I must tell you there is a high commitment on the part of the government to fix the Bolgatanga-Bawku road which I equally ply when I visit home. Some payments were made last year and some were made last two weeks. I can tell you on authority the about two or three weeks ago the contractor was given about 2.5 million Ghana cedis to move on site while efforts are being made to pay the others.”

“What people don’t understand is that there are more than one thousand roads in the country which are being worked on and we have limited resources so we have distribute the limited resources equitably so there is no way government can single out on road and send the money there otherwise we will be concentrating on some and leaving the rest. It’s not like we are in Accra and not doing nothing but you cannot always call and tell what you are doing.”
