A pressure group is mounting force on businessman, Alfred Agbesi Woyome to refund the Ghc 51 million judgment debt wrongly paid to him.

The group is made up of private and public sector workers with a joint name; ‘Woyome Junction Gargantuan’ and located in North Natinga in the Bawku Municipality as their meeting point.

The group was inaugurated in 2010 at a time Woyome was accused of defrauding the state by false pretence.

The National Democratic Congress financier was accused of causing financial loss to the state after he received GHc 51 million in 2010 for his role in the construction of stadia for the CAN 2008 tournament held in Ghana.

Mr. Woyome is standing trial to refund the monies after the Supreme Court of Ghana rejected an order by the African Court of Human and People’s Right asking to halt proceedings leading to the retrieval of the money.

But the pressure group believes the appointment of Martin Amidu as Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor is in the right direction in retrieving the monies.

“We thank the president in the first place for this appointment. The president himself has seen that, the very person who can actually help us solve this corrupt practice in the public sector is Martin Amidu” Secretary to the group, Abubakari Sumaila Gariba stated.

Mr. Gariba is confident the country’s economy will bounce back to its toes if the 51 million cedis is retrieved from Woyome asserting that “we know the impact of how these monies would have probably gone to help certain sectors within the economy”

Giving credit to Mr. Amidu, secretary to the group added that the choice of the “gargantuan” for the group is of the fact that “these monies are such a huge amount of money. It is money that can make very serious impact in our lives”
