The acting regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Murtala Mohammed, has said his party has seen some tremendous growth since he took over the management of the party as the acting regional chairman.

“Since I took over as a substantive regional chairman, after the demise of my late regional chairman, Chairman Adams; May his soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the lord. When everything was looking very gloomy for the region, when the structures of the party were in limbo, I stepped in at the most critical time to restructure and restore dignity and pride in the works of the party in the Upper east region. At this time, I embarked on a unity visit to all the constituencies. Four years ago, I was elected as the Upper East regional first vice chairman for the New Patriotic Party”.

Addressing a news conference in Bolgatanga last Thursday, Mr. Murtala said, his visit to the 15 constituencies was to ensure that all hope was not lost in the activities of the party and most importantly under his leadership as the regional chairman.

He said his priority now is to improve the structures of the party in the upper east region, similar to the ones which pushed the party to adopting some strategies including the ‘ADOPT A POLLING STATION’ which was very successful.

“I organized the first ever fund raising ceremony which was held in Accra and I can confidently tell you people that under my leadership as the regional chairman, we were able to increase the number of seats we have in the region. We were having one seat before the 2016 general election”.

He used the medium to speak on some of the promises made by his contenders in winning 15 seats for the party in the next general elections and described them as “lies and impossible”.

“From what they are saying about targeting the 15 seats, they are just playing to the gallery. NDC is a stronghold in the Upper East Region whether we liked it or not. We have to start small small by getting them small small but if they say they are targeting the 15 seat, is a lie and they are not sincere to themselves” He said.

He further expressed his confidence in the party delegates, hoping they will give him their mandate.
