Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong will appear before the Privileges Committee of Parliament today for allegedly insulting the Majority Leader and some of his colleagues.
Mr. Agyapong is accused of making disparaging remarks against parliament and the Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, describing the the House as “useless” for having the MP for Suame as its leader.
He may be sanctioned based on the outcome of the probe by the Privileges Committee.
According to the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament Joe Osei Owusu, if indeed Mr. Agyapong made such utterances then he has breached the laws.
“Where complaints are made of a breach of privilege or contempt of Parliament, the Speaker may direct that the matter be referred to the committee of privileges and under this circumstance I direct that the honorable member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong appears before the privileges committee for the committee to determine whether indeed he uttered those words which are attributed to him and if so recommend appropriate sanctions to the House,” Mr. Owusu ordered.
NDC MP for Asawase Muntaka Mubarak reported the issue to the House.
