About 15 residents affected by heavy rainstorms in some communities in the Bongo district of the upper east region this year and in 2017 have received relief items from the National Disaster Management Organization through the Bongo District Assembly.

The affected persons received items including clothing, mattresses, buckets, roofing sheets, cement and other relief items.

The Bongo District Chief Executive Mr. Peter Ayinbisa who presented the items at the forecourt of the Assembly impressed upon and cautioned the beneficiaries not to sell the relief items as often seen in the past. He advised that they put them to purposeful use.

According to Mr. Ayinbisa, the district for the past four years has not received relief items for recorded natural disaster incidents.

He however assured that “government is committed to ensuring that the welfare of everyone in this country is well taken care of”.

The items delivered are valued at 7,100 Ghana cedis. The relief targeted persons who were affected by rains and heavy rainstorms late last year and early this year.

Bongo is one of the districts in the upper east region lying on the storm prone disaster belt. It shares borders with Burkina Faso, a desert recovering country in West Africa.
