President Nana Akufo-Addo has nominated the Executive Director for the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Mrs Jean Mensah as the new Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana.

In a statement released Monday July 23 and signed by the Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei Opare, the President also named a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Eric Asare Bossman and Mr. Samuel Tetteh as deputy chairpersons while Ms Adjoa Essuman Abrefa, a Corporate Legal Practitioner with specialisation in Land Property Acquisition has been named as a member of the commission.

“This follows the removal from office on Thursday 28th June 2018 of the former chairperson of the new EC chair Mrs Charlotte Osei and the two deputies Mr Amadu Sulley and Mrs Goergina Opoku Amankwa by President Akufo-Addo after a committee established by the Chief Justice Justice Sophia Akuffo to investigate petitions brought against them recommended their removal.

“Further, the retirement of office of Mrs Pauline Dadzawa, a member of the commission, on Monday 30th April 2018 has created an addition vacancy within the commission.”

Below is the communication from the Presidency.

The names of the nominees have since been referred to the Council of State for advice.
