Talensi District to get 10 dams under 1V-1D policy

Ten dams under the government’s One Village One Dam Policy are set to be constructed in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region. The District Chief Executive, Dr, Christopher Boatbil, announced this when he handed over four sites to a contractor to commence the construction of the first batch of the Dams on Monday.

Addressing the Chief and people of Winkongo after handing over sites, Dr. Boatbil said the Dams will help boost agriculture in the district and called on communities which were yet to benefit from the Dams to exercise patience.

He assured the people of Winkongo that they will get another Dam, which has been part of his initial negotiation with Ghana Social Opportunities Project (GSOP).

He recounted that the One Village One Dam Policy was a major campaign promise by then presidential candidates and now president Akufo-Addo and was happy his district also received its share of the dams which are aimed at watering animals, irrigating small scale dry season farming and also for domestic chores.

Dr. Boabil assured the people of Winkongo that he is in talks with the telecommunication companies to find a solution to the terrible network challenge in the area.

The contractor in charge of constructing of the four dams Prince Kamal Gumah of Gumah and Sons Company, told the media that due to the rainy season, his work will commence in November/December.

According to him, he is very ready to commence work immediately after the rainy season is over because there are available resources and equipment for the construction.

The four dams are located in  Awaradone,, Yameriga, Kaare and Sawaliga communities
