Before Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy returns home to succeed him as Upper East Regional Minister, the outgoing minister, Rockson Ayine Bukari, has said Paulina Patience Tangoba Abayage is an achiever in whom he knows the region will witness great development.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in a presidential reschedule announced last Thursday, recalled Madam Abayage from Rome and designated her as Upper East Regional Minister. If vetted and approved by Parliament, she will take over from Mr. Ayine Bukari who has also been designated as a minister of state at the office of the president.

Addressing headmasters and headmistresses of second cycle institutions in the region last Friday, the man referred to by many as Action Man, described Ambassador Abayage as his queen mother whom he said he does not doubt her competence to deliver on her new job by continuing from where he left off.

Later in an exclusive interview with A1 NEWS, Mr. Ayine Bukari, said Ambassador Abayage is an achiever and hardworking, and promised he would liaise with her while in his new office at the presidency to bring the needed development to the region.

When asked what legacy he was leaving as he exits office, he said peace and reduction in robbery cases in the region are among the many things he has achieved. His efforts in resolving chieftaincy issues in the region, according to him, led to a successful ‘enskinment’ of a new chief for Navrongo on Saturday, August 11, 2018.

According to him, when he assumed office in 2017, he visited all the 17 paramount chiefs to introduce himself to them and to seek their support on developing the region. During those visits, he observed some chieftaincy problems in some of the areas but was able to resolve all those issues within a year.

He also said before his arrival, there were rampant robbery attacks in the region including snatching of motorbikes and highway robbery but with the support of the Regional Security Council which he chairs; robbery attacks and motorbike snatching have also been brought under control.

Mr. Ayine Bukari said he was able to lead the district to implement some of government’s flagship policies like Planting for Food and Jobs, One Village One Dam and Free Senior High School across the region.
