It has emerged that the recent floods that ravaged low-lying communities in the Upper East Region claimed a total of 17 lives with 2 still missing; the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has revealed after its preliminary assessment of the destruction caused by the floods.

The floods were caused by torrential rains, coupled with the opening of the Bagre in Burkina Faso. The deceased persons included 16 males and 1 female.

Deputy Regional NADMO Coordinator In-Charge of Operations/Disasters, Mr. Paul Wooma, who revealed this in presentation during a meeting with NADMO’s collaborators including Ghana Red Cross Society and Ghana Health Service, said most of the deceased persons got drowned while crossing flooded streams.

In all, a total of 122 communities,11,739 farmers made up of 7,556 males and 4,183 females were also affected. A total number of farm fields affected stood at 11,959.
