Family members of a pregnant Honduran teenager, who had been declared dead and subsequently buried, have rushed to her tomb and pulled open her coffin after supposedly hearing her scream for help.

16-year-old Nelsy Perez was then taken to a clinic after she was broken free and she was still in the coffin dressed in the wedding gown, she was going to wear for her marriage to the father of her unborn child when the doctor said she showed no signs of life and she was still dead.

Her husband, Rudy Gonzales, who heard her banging from inside the coffin during a visit to her grave, told a local news channel, “As I put my hand on her grave I could hear noises inside. I heard banging, then I heard a voice. She was screaming for help. It had already been a day since we buried her. I couldn’t believe it. I was ecstatic, full of hope.”

Neysi’s mother, Maria Gutierrez, said her daughter still showed signs of warmth when she held her.

“We were all so happy. After being declared dead for such a long time, everybody was saying that she had come back to life. We were all so happy. I thought I was going to get my daughter back,” she said.

Neysi was later reburied in the same mausoleum in La Entrada General Cemetery.
