A leading member of the opposition National Democratic Congress in tthe Upper East Region, John Paul Danka has commended students of the Zorkor Senior High School, describing them as vigilant citizens, worthy of emulation by other youth.

On Saturday, December 1, some students of the Zorkor Senior High School apprehended a young riding a three wheeled motorbike with food stuff allegedly taken from the School’s stores as directed by the Matron.

A Committee was tasked soon after a report was made to the Headmaster of the School to investigate the case and on Tuesday December 11, the Committee submitted a report which included recommendations and commendations.

Among other things, the Committee recommended that the School Matron should be transferred, which John Paul Danka thinks is not the right way to fight corruption in the country, hence the need for another look at the recommendation.

The Committee established that, the Matron had a hand in the stealing of the food stuff from the School on Saturday, December 1 and this is where Mr. Danka, like Johnson Ayine Apasinaba who was also on the Day Break Upper East programme on A1 Radio in Bolgatanga, thought the Matron should have been taken through the legal procedure in addressing theft.

Since the news broke out, the Matron’s name and identity has been concealed, which the NDC Communicator, thought was not right in fighting corruption.

“Even if she will not be taken through the legal procedure, naming and shaming will be good way of fighting this problem. It is not only in Zorkor SHS, there are other cases in other school and when people are apprehended, they are protected, like it’s being done now and so they go on doing the same thing anywhere they are transferred to.” Mr. Danka noted.

A leading member of the Peoples National Convention in the Upper East Region, Johnson Apasinaba who also on the programme, said this should be an eye opener for public, and should get the public to review how so much respect for the rich in society.

“We cherish people who are rich and we even praise them, without finding out how they made or are making their money. Not every rich or well to do people make their wealth through genuine means. Just imagine what happened at Zorkor, this could be an example. Some people start working and within a short time they are doing so much and acquiring many properties and society rather praise them and we don’t ask how they made so much within a short time.” Mr. Apasinaba said.

The Committee has recommended that the Matron of Zorkor Senior High School should be transferred from the school and the question the panMATRON on the programme as well as members of the public who called into the programme, are asking is which school deserves her.
