Some concerned parents and teachers of the 31st December Women’ Movement Kindergarten in the Tindonsobligo community in the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region, are calling on government to support the school, by enrolling it onto the School Feeding Programme to save the school from collapsing.

A visit to the school revealed that, the pupil population has dwindled leaving only 34 children and out of this number, some do not come to school regularly with the reason that, they get scared by the dilapidated nature of the school’s structure.

Speaking exclusively on A1 News, the Assembly woman Tindonsobligo Electoral Area and a former District Chairperson of the 31st December Women’ Movement, Stella Anafo, recounted how the Kindergarten used to be beneficial to many children in the community and yet, successive governments have not enrolled the School onto the Ghana School Feeding Program.

“Since the establishment of the school by the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, she used to support the Kindergarten with food stuff, and during those days, pupils were in school every day. …now some of these children are Nurses and Teachers, but since she stopped giving the school food, the school started suffering and the number of children enrolled started reducing.

The school’s structure too, is in a deplorable state and sometimes even scares adults. It is sad to see little children between the ages of 3 and 6, staying in their various houses and not going to school because, the 31st December Women’s Movement Kindergarten in Tindonsobligo is the only school their parents can offer. Unfortunately, this school is not part of schools benefiting from School Feeding Program.” She said.

Whiles hitting at this government and successive ones, she called on the leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings to revisit the 31st December Women Movement Projects she established some years ago and support them from collapsing.

“…without hesitation I will appeal to the former first lady to revisit all projects she did in the Upper East Region and some of the Day Care Centers, if not, those Projects are rioting and it is a laughter to her image, her Party and 31st December Women’ Movement.” Madam Stella Anafo pleaded.

The Assistant Headmistress of the School, Akanzire Christy, said if government enrolls the 31st December Women Movement Kindergarten onto the School Feeding Program, it will help boost the morale of the pupils to be coming to school every day and also stay in school.

She also appealed to all and sundry, to come to their aid, to give the children of the school quality education.
