The National Democratic Party (NDP) has rubbished news suggesting that ormer First Lady and Flagbearer of the party, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings has bowed out of the presidential race in the upcoming elections.

In the early hours of Monday, November 23, 2020, there was news circulating on both traditional and social media suggesting that Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings had bowed out of the elections following the demise of her husband, former President Jerry John Rawlings.

But addressing a press conference in Accra, General Secretary of the NDP, Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong debunked the news; describing it as “fake news” and urged the general public to disregard.

“The news is fake and must be treated as such. Our flag bearer is bereaving and must be allowed to do so in peace. Our presidential candidate has not taken any decision to pull out of the race and has not been in communication with the EC.”He explained.

Mr.Frimpong also aimed a dig at the NDC for allegedly orchestrating the propagation of the fake news.

“This is just the latest of the lies that the NDC has hit on the ‘Rawlingses over the last decade. The question you should be asking is this; why is the NDC panicking now over the candidacy of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings? Why are they afraid now? It is the ghost of their own misdeeds and maltreatment of Rawlings and a due reward that awaits them on December 7.” He alleged.

Meanwhile, Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has directed all NDC communicators across the country to desist from commenting on the allegations leveled against the party and its flag bearer by the NDP.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, reacting to the NDP has the proclivity of diverting their attention from important issues like the ‘Agyaapa Royalties’ and other matters of alleged corruption in the current government.
