The Ghanaian youth have been admonished to be steadfast, patient and persevere, during hard times in their lives, as their struggles could lead to better days in future.
The District Chief Executive of Bolgatanga East in the Upper East Region, Professor Emmanuel Aboole gave the advice in an interview on the Day Break Upper East show on A1Radio, as he recounted his life experience.
Professor Aboole, like many other accomplished persons, believes that, without patience and perseverance, one would not be able to attain his or her aims in life.
“From the beginning, when I was born, from Obuasi where I grew up, I was born to a family of illiterate parents and that is a fact, my father had never gone to school and my mother has never gone to school. My father had learned carpentry and worked with the gold mine and my mum was preparing palm cannel to sell and that was the home I was born in to.
I am the second among the children, and the only one who has gone to school throughout the period. But the atmosphere especially at Obuasi was all about gold; any child especially at the time, who finished middle school was dreaming of going to gold mine to work and no one was dreaming beyond that.
Somehow, I loved education, I wasn’t bad at school, from primary school, I was virtually topping my class the greater part of the time up to middle school and the whole middle school form 1 to form 4, I was still topping my class and when we went for the school leaving certificate examination, I was the only one who had a distinction and I told my father that, am not going to the mine to work; I want to progress.
It appeared there was a few dragging in the sense that, he didn’t have money. He was a bit concerned, but I told him the gold mine had a scholarship for the wards of workers and the gold mine actually gave that formal secondary education 5 years that time, and the 6th form was government bursary, which took me through that level as well. As I processed after 6th form, I was hit by an obvious challenge and that was a financial constraint, which challenged my progress into my educational life.” He narrated.
Professor Aboole therefore impressed upon the youth especially, to be focused and should not fall for easy channels to make life better, since it will end up destroying their future, because such actions are short-lived.
“I will admonish that, nothing good comes by chance, they all boils down to hard work, perseverance, clear focus and above all, the favor of God. It is said in the good holy book, the Bible, that, except the Lord builds, the builders labor in vain and except the Lord watches, the watchmen watches in vain.
Again it says, the battle is not for the strong neither, the race for the swift.
Indeed, in life there are chances and there are unexpected happenings, but it is the Lord who can lead you out. Some times, it is a trap that people will set, to track you and destroy you, by all means and there is no human on earth without enemies. Even Jesus, the finest of all characters, had a lot of enemies and how much a man who is fallible with some mistakes and people will want even to capitalize upon your mistakes and finish you up.
So, I will tell the youth that, learn to be focused, learn to persevere, learn to have faith that, you are not useless. You have a potential, look out to see it.”
However, sharing some of his expectation for the year 2019, he said, the year is expected to be a blessed year for the country and its citizens as a whole.
