As part of measures to combat fire outbreak at all cost in the Upper East Region, the Regional Director of the Ghana National Fire Service, Madam Heroine S. Boakye and other officials have sensitized market women in the Bolgatanga Municipality on the need to adhere to all fire safety measures to prevent fire outbreaks and to protect their investments in the markets.
Speaking to the media, Madam Heroine S. Boakye explained that the exercise is aimed at sensitizing market women and the public in general on the dangers of fire outbreak, since that falls within their core mandate.
“Our duty is to sensitized persons on the dangers of fire and how they should be cautious of it. In fact, the first day I stepped my foot on the soil of the region, I said to myself I have a lot of work to do. Indeed, as you all can bear witness to that effect. All what I am saying is that I will do my part as a Fire Officer but it’s left on the public to either adhere to directives or let go.”
However, Madam Boakye called on relevant authorities to join hands in planning the municipality well as fire outbreak has no mercy to either persons or property.
“…it is sad to say, but look how most of the buildings and shops are, if proper steps are not taking by the relevant authority ( Environmental Protection Agency, Town and Country Planning Unit) and we the Fire Service Department, should in case there is to a fire outbreak, the region will suffer a great loses.”
