Tutors at Gowrie Senior High School in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region, on Monday May 13th, boycotted teaching as they demanded for better working conditions from their school head.

According to them, for some time now the school’s head has refused to pay their motivational allowances as well as provide them with quality working environment in the school.

“… in fact as tutors, we continue doing what is known as open defecation at a nearby bush for some years now despite numerous demands for tutor’s toilets. Aside that, for some time now almost all of us have not been paid our motivational allowances, yet the school’s head is not ready to give us any tangible reasons as to why we have not been paid.” One tutor name withheld explained.

He further added that since coming into office, the head has been treating them unfairly in the school, reason for them boycotting their duties in order to register their displeasure for better working conditions.

After 30 minutes into the protest, A1 Radio was told that the Bongo District Education Director, Madison Amokase rushed to the school and asked the tutors to cancel the protest and rather come for a round table meeting to resolve the problem.

After few hours of dialogue, the tutors were told to go back to the classrooms and their grievances will be met within the week.
