Preparations are underway for the 10th edition of the Ramadan Soccer Fiesta in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region and organizers have assured that the soccer tournament will start a day after the end of Ramadan, which is the Sala day.
The annual soccer tournament started 10 years ago by some youth of D-line, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality with the aim of uniting the youth and affording them an opportunity to fraternize and appreciate the essence of peaceful co-existence.
The competition has been accepted by almost all communities in the Bolgatanga Municipality, with many communities always left out due to financial challenges the organizers face. This year’s tournament has a total of 16 communities.
The organizers have always relied on individuals and some politicians for support, but have stated that they are opened to accept sponsorship in cash or kind from the corporate world as well.
Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Issac Adongo has pledged to give all sixteen participating communities 300 Ghana Cedis and a football each, winning team gets GHc1000, second placed team gets GHc 500, third and fourth placed communities get a football each.
He has applauded organisers and has encouraged them to continue coming up with brilliant ideas of this nature to help uplift the image of the region in positive ways.
