Some members of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Nabdam Constituency of the Upper East Region have accused the Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane of deliberately sharing his share of the district’s assemblies’ common fund to cronies of the opposition National Democratic Congress National (NDC).

“The MP is on record to have asked for two tertiary students per polling station from his NDC polling station executives, all in the name of supporting them using our common fund. This a plan well hatched to lure his polling station executives to vote for him in their upcoming primaries”, they alleged.

They further alleged Dr. Nawaane on one occasion attempted to seek refund from the Nabdam District Assembly on monies he claimed he had spent on behalf of the assembly.

NPP Constituency Organizer for Nabdam, Roland Datoghe made the allegations on behalf of the party at a press conference held at Nangodi.

Members of the NPP who demanded accountability of some projects Dr. Nawaane promised the people of Nabdam during the electioneering period say the MP has not been vocal enough in parliament to lobby for such projects.

“Our investigations show that, he has only contributed once during parliamentary proceedings in the house. So what kind of lobbying could he do when he is unable to contribute meaningfully to discussions in Parliament”, they stated.

At the time of filling this report, Dr. Nawaane was out of the country attending a program in Switzerland.

However, NDC Communication Officer for the Nabdam Constituency, Tenga James who doubles spokesperson for the MP rubbished the claims.

“What he does is, he gives opportunity to opinion leaders, chiefs and women leaders to select the needy students and recommend to him. The man has not supported up to 10 students so I don’t know where these people are getting their information. I have applauded them for recognizing that they have heard the MP in Parliament once, but I am asking them, the one we send to Parliament in 2012 whether did we heard him once in Parliament”, Mr. Tenga questioned.
