Cut and paste way of music can’t grow our music industry – Pay Jay

As many up-coming musicians in the Upper East Region are working hard to get the likes of Stonebwoy and Shatter Wale to feature in their songs, Pay Jay an Urban Gospel artiste based in Bolgatanga, says he would prefer Nero X, to the above mentioned artists in his song.

His reason is that the kind of genre Nero X does is a Ghanaian style which is unique and has made a lot of impact on the teaming youth of the country, unlike the cut and paste music many artists do lately.

Pay Jay whose real name is Benjamin Asieme, views music as a way of life for a particular group of people and therefore should always be centered on the culture and art of the people living in that society, and not the cut and paste kind of music.

“Music is an art and for an art to be recognized and appreciated by all people, it should be able to tell the unique history of the people or society and not to copy American rap style and paste it in Ghana music style.” He said.

In an exclusive interview on the “Work and Happiness” show A1 Radio, Pay Jay explained that one of the surest way the music industry in the region can progress, is when his colleague musicians begin fusing the cultures of the land into their musics and stop the cut and paste rap styles.

“…yes, the entertainment industry is still young in the region, but most of my colleague musicians are not doing enough to project it to the top. Guys here are still focusing on how to rap like the American Rappers; Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and the likes and not fusing their culture.” He explained.

He also encouraged his colleagues to focus on doing music that has their own culture in it, and also see Nero X style of music as the surest way towards bringing positive changes into the music industry in the Upper East Region.

He however, assured his fans to be watchful as his new single, “Jehovah” will meet their taste.
