The Overlord of the Tongo Traditional Area in the Upper East Region, Tongraan Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebegtang, has asked Ghanaian politicians to usually show dignity to chiefs in the northern part of the country whenever they intend to pay courtesy calls on them.

According to the Paramount Chief, the manner in which politicians usually ambush northern chiefs at their various palaces all in the name of visiting them without giving prior notices is insulting to the chieftaincy title and should not be accepted nor practiced.

“How can you visit me when I have no prior knowledge of your coming? Excuse me to say, but, I don’t think most of these politicians will not do same to the Southern Chiefs anytime they want to visit them [Chiefs]. That level of respect needs to be there.”

Tongraan Kubilsong Nalebegtan made this comment at his palace on Wednesday January 1, 2020 in a live broadcast of A1 Radio’s flagship programme, DayBreak Upper East from his palace at Tongo.

In his New Year message, he appealed to the sons and daughters of the Talensi Traditional Area as well as the people of the Upper East Region who are in the diaspora to begin setting the agenda of coming home to invest.

This, he said will help the region to gain the full potential of development that those at home need to make life better.

He also called on the youth to be conscious and continue to portray the culture of the land as culture helps in identifying one’s uniqueness.

The programme was hosted by Gifty Kayla Amoshe and produced by Moses Apiah and Emmanuel Aboagye.
