Chief Executive Officer of Ghana First Company Limited, Akugre Frank is angry with former Sanitation Minister, Hon. Kofi Adda for accusing his company of involving in a scam.
Ghana First Company Limited is a waste management company which was reported to have entered into a contractual agreement with Thermodul System GmBH, a German Company and subsequently entered into a Private Public Partnership (PPP) agreement with the Government of Ghana through the Local Government Ministry and the Sanitation Ministry to construct 20,000 units of modern automated toilet facilities across all Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts across the country at a cost of $300,000,000.
The Company subsequently opened tender for the construction of the first set of the facilities with target of constructing 10,000 of its Toilet facility model and put into operation by 2025. The projects have been halted across the country because of disagreements between the company and the Contractors as well as the Metropolitan, Municipal and Districts Assemblies.
According to the Contractors, the Company deceived them to believing that it had adequate funds to make 60% of the contract sum after a collaborative visit which has been done, and not a penny has been paid to them since executing their part of the contract. The Company was accused of perpetuating a scam which the case ended up in court.
The latest to join the fray of accusations of an attempted scam by the company is the former sector Minister for Sanitation, Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda. He revealed that his ministry realized a suspicion of scam by the company when a proposal was presented and decided to investigate its activities but did not engage them formally. He emphasized that Ghana First Company Limited wanted to “scam” the government.
But a livid CEO of the company who was reacting an interview the latter granted on Daybreak Upper East did not mince words on the comments made by the former Sanitation Minister and described him as dishonest.
“Hon. Kofi Adda has made me to know the reason why I and my contractors are suffering .. the reason is that if He Kofi Adda will have a motive that Ghana first is not credible . our constitution does not support any wrong doing and you are in government and you have all the security and everything and you said when heard it you asked the security to investigate me, he should let the public know the outcome of that report. I respect so I will not say the word a lie but all that he has said is not true. He is being dishonest” he yelled
He also warned contractors who are struggling to tarnish the image of his company to desist from such acts because he will come after anyone who make such attempts.
Meanwhile, the existing toilet facilities, which served the communities and were demolished to pave way for the 3 months ultra-modern project to take place and are now halted is causing serious health concerns as the affected residents resort to open defecation especially in the Upper East Region.
