The security agencies in Ghana have been urged to carry out their mandatory responsibilities devoid of immaturity and suspicion.

The call came at the backdrop of the recent arrest of National Communications Officer for NDC ,Sammy Gyamfi which saw party faithful massing up at the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID)office.

Sammy Gyamfi is accused of involving in cyber crime and creation of fake news. He has since been released but his electronic gadgets have been seized.

The development has created mixed reactions in the political arena with the NDC accusing government of abusing power through the use of state security to intimidate them.

Speaking on the issue on Daybreak Upper East, Deputy Communications Director for NPP , Johnson Ayine admonished the security services to execute their responsibilities accordingly with tact in order to avoid raising political meanings into their operations.

“The security agencies they should be able to implement the law properly in a way that will not create suspicion…I monitored the airwaves and people are trying to politicize it . The two parties have served this country before so if an NDC man is telling me that it is being influenced by the state , the simply question you will ask is that are you doing that , were these security agencies controlled by you when you were in-charge? If you admit that when you were in power we were controlling he security agencies that is why we will believe that you are also doing same … that will put us at a better pedestrian for all us to then say how are going to stop that thing ? But when you refuse to admit that you were controlling to do certain things and you are saying I’m the one doing it , it will be difficult for me to understand you” he said

Mr. Ayine is however impressing upon the political class and actors to desist from acts that undermine the laws of the the country.

“As politicians we ought to respect the law let the laws work . Security agencies should also stop the favoritisms.. I think when we continue, or when you are doing that kind of thing ,it is creating a certain impression out there which is not helping us “ he stated

Meanwhile, Member of the NDC’s Communications Team in the Upper East Region, Abdallah Salifu holds a divergent view that the state security has allowed itself to be remote controlled by politicians , a situation if not checked can cause chaos in the country.

“That is why these days they invite people and they refuse to turn up because it is like they have now become an intimidating organization than rather being seen as a law enforcement organization. You must not allow yourself to be controlled by people in higher position especially the politicians… so it is like a planned thing to gag some people . I think that the Ghana police must begin to reason beyond the bar , they shouldn’t allow the politicians to manipulate them when they continue that way , I don’t know where their fate will be” he stressed
