Despite resistance from the minority’s side in parliament over the cost of Pwalungu Multipurpose Dam loan agreement, the majority says, their action is a move in futility.

The Minority in Parliament has raised red flags over the cost of constructing Pwalungu Multipurpose Dam In Upper East Region stating that the amount was over bloated.

They are also claiming that documentations and details surrounding the project have been hidden from them,a reason they will not be part of any attempt to rob the taxpayers.

The loan agreement laid in Parliament contains a Ghs993 billion cost to be executed by Sinohydro a subsidiary company of China-Power and funded by the government of Ghana.

This has caused a stir in the debate of the cost involved compelling the Speaker of Parliament to defer proceedings on the loan agreement.

But speaking in an interview with A1 Radio’s Stephen Chidozie, Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice who doubles as the Member of Parliament for Tempane Constituency in Upper East Region, Hon. Joseph Dindiok Kpemka said, claims made by the minority were not cogent enough but an attempt to delay the project hence, the majority will go ahead to approve the loan in the interest of the people of Ghana.

“I can assure you that they will have their say, we are going to have our way and we will approve the loan agreement in the good interest of the good people of Ghana and the north in particular so that we will all benefit from it”

Touching on issues about value for money in the project, he said “we will debate the value for money and all that but in the end I know that good reason will prevail and I know the minority will not dare vote against it because the majority of the minority are from the north, it is to their benefit because if you look at upper East the New Patriotic Party holds just 3 seats out of the 15,in Upper West that we have 5out of 11 and in the Northern Region about 13 or so and the majority there also belong to the NDC”.

Mr Kpemka however stated that it will be to the benefit of the minority in parliament to approve the loan because majority of the MPs will be he direct beneficiaries.

“So clearly the five regions of the north, the NDC has majority of the seats so for them to vote against a policy that will affect that area, for me is the slowest and the longest ever attempt to commit suicide by any man and our people and posterity will forever not forgive us if we dare not approve this wonderful gesture extended to us by his Excellency of the Republic of Ghana” he indicated.
