Dr. Zangina urges due process over forceful raids in national security operations

Dr. Nicholas Zangina, a communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, has expressed concerns over the recent raids on the homes of former government appointees. While emphasizing that the law must be upheld, he insisted that legal processes should take precedence over forceful actions.

“Matters of law and security are often handled behind closed doors. You are not always privy to the full details of the situation. You are only given a certain aspect of what transpired. But from a legal standpoint, I do not support the raid.”

“If someone is suspected of wrongdoing, the appropriate action is to subject them to due legal processes.”

Speaking on A1 Radio, Dr. Zangina questioned whether those involved in the raid had first been invited to answer to the authorities or if they had refused to cooperate with legal processes—circumstances that might have justified the search. His remarks come amid growing concerns over escalating security operations, following a National Security raid on the home of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Ernest Addison.

During the raid, authorities seized multiple vehicles and disabled CCTV systems installed at the residence. This operation is part of a series of security raids in recent weeks, raising widespread concerns about the extent and legality of such actions. While the full details of the investigation remain unclear, the crackdown on former appointees has sparked significant questions regarding the legal basis and procedures behind these operations.

Dr. Zangina specifically questioned whether the raid on Dr. Addison’s residence was conducted to determine if state resources were unlawfully stored at the location. However, the full details of what prompted the operation have yet to be made public.

“The question is, were these individuals suspected of possessing state resources in their homes? Until a search is conducted, you cannot determine that.”

He further raised concerns about the legitimacy of the raid, particularly regarding the authority of those who carried out the operation and whether they had the proper authorization to conduct the search.
