Former President John Dramani Mahama has said his administration employed the largest number of health professionals in the country.

According to him, this success pontificates to the National Democratic Congress’ commitment to establishing and ensuring a standard health care delivery system in the country.

In a televised address to the nation on Facebook, John Mahama lamented that the current administration led by President Nana Akufo-Addo has paid lip-service to the health sector a reason projects that were started in his regime have been halted.

The NDC Leader touted his achievements in the health sector in the areas of building standard health facilities and increasing the number of health personnel before he was voted out in 2016 elections.

“My administration employed the largest number of health professionals in recent times . Under my watch ,41418 Nurses were employed by the Ghana Health Service . We increased the number of nurses from 1125 in 2012 to 52605 by the time we left office in 2016 and this can be verified from the facts and figures from the publication of the Ghana Health Service “ he indicated.

Mr. Mahama however noted that,if government reduced it’s army of large appointees, there will be space to accommodate the employment of health personnel in the country to fight Covid-19.

“If we prioritize properly and reduce the large army of ministers and other political appointees ,we could properly create more space to accommodate some of our nurses and doctors who sitting idling at home .we’ve done it before with the limited resources available to us” He said.
